Back to the Basics|Skull Studies

I’ve decided that for right now I’ve learned all that I can on my own learning how to draw/paint the human figure. I’ve decided to go back to the basics of when I first started learning by going over my course that I purchased two years ago from one of my top favorite artist’s, Aaron Blaise.

I honestly can’t believe it’s been about two years since I last really studied drawing people and characters. I probably would be a lot better and proficient had I kept up the studies, but, sometimes I get to a point where I get seriously burnt out, and bored… not the best combo, and the way I tend to remedy that is by taking what I’ve learned thus far and try and set out on my own to try and learn some more by practicing  drawing people from life, photos, and anything else I can find. Well, I’ll admit, I have learned a lot, some good, and some bad, and I believe that I’m at a point where I seriously need to go back and go through my studies again. Hopefully, now that I’ve gone through and done my own personal studies, I’ll be able to go back through the courses and be able to get even more out of them than I did the first time around.

To compare where I am at now currently, here is a previous skull study that I did with Aaron from two years ago. The studies are exactly the same one’s, but now I have two years of practice under my belt. And to be honest, I was able to go through the course this time around much easier than I did before, and I thought it was funny when I wrote how difficult it was before, and now, it’s not so much difficult, as it is trying to be more observant and think critically about the structure underneath the skin of the human figure.
