What’s up guys, so, I have just finished creating my very first character design “turnaround”. I was inspired to create my own original ninja styled character from watching Naruto. I loved Naruto’s take on the concept of ninja’s, and that led me to start googling different designs, as well as authentic ninja gear, clothes, etc.
I imported some images that inspired me into Photoshop for a reference library to give me an idea on how to create a believable character design. Granted, I’ve never done this before, so I probably made a few mistakes, but hey, I had a lot of fun, and in the end the result I got was, in my opinion, pretty cool.
My ninja character is far from finished, and there are many things that I wish to change, add on, and overall, to give the designs a fully rendered appearance. One thing that I’d love to do with this new character is to try and create a full fledged illustration of him and see how well he looks. Maybe I’ll even come up with a backstory, which will lead to other designs in the future for more characters. 🙂
I hope that you guys like how this ninja character turned out, and please let me know what you think in the comments section, I’d love to hear what you like, or even dislike about the character, and possible ways I could improve as a character artist.
And, as always, thank you guys so much for checking out my work, I really appreciate it, and I hope all of you have a great day!!
Hey guys, so I decided to try something a little different in this quick painting, and that is to keep everything as rough as I can. I wanted to try my hand at creating a fairly “minimalist” styled art piece.
For a first time try at this, I don’t think it turned out that bad, and I had quite a bit of fun painting this. Keeping things simplistic has never been one of my strong suites, so, it was pretty difficult not to try and make this into a completely rendered painting with lots of detail.
I actually started this painting just as a warm up/study piece, but then had the idea of seeing how rough I could make it while at the same time making the image read clearly to the viewer.
Hopefully I accomplished that task, and I hope that you guys like how this piece turned out! Please feel free to leave a comment down below letting me know what you think of my attempt at creating a Doberman minimalist styled painting. And, as always, thank you so much for checking out my art, I really appreciate it! 🙂
I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday!! 😀
Woohoo, I’m finally finished with my Kakashi painting!!
This took me a very long time to create, but in my opinion, it was well worth it! I definitely learned a lot while working on this, and I think I have some even better ideas as to how I’ll be working on future character paintings.
In this piece, I tried to experiment with some photo manipulation techniques, such as applying textures to Kakashi’s mask, head band, and his jacket. If you notice, though, the photo textures I’m using on Kakashi are simply pushing what has already been painted underneath. I actually didn’t apply those textures till I was nearing the end of the rendering process. However, the background, I did something I’ve never actually done before, and is something that I don’t intend to do very much, and that is to use only photos…. granted, it was not my original idea to only use photographs, but when I started to play with arranging the photos to create a forest/woods styled background, and adjusting the lighting of the photos, I really liked how Kakashi seemed to fit nicely with the overall scene. I did try to do some painting work, and adjusting the colors of the background, but in the end, I simply decided to just paint in the overall lighting for the scene, and to mute the colors of the bg quite a bit. In the end, I got, in my opinion, a fairly interesting picture.
In all, I believe that this painting took me about 8-10 hours to create.
I hope that you guys like how this piece turned out, and thank you so much for checking out my work! ^^
Hey guys, sorry for the inactivity the last couple of days, been a bit busy lately. I’m good now, and I have a new painting that I’ve been working on! Not sure how many of you have ever watched Naruto before, and I admit, I’m not a huge anime fan, but Naruto is by far my most favorite anime of all time! 😀
Since I’ve been focusing lately on drawing human anatomy, and so far I’ve only covered how to draw the face, I thought that it would be fun to take one of my favorite characters from Naruto, Kakashi, and try to draw and paint him as realistically as I can.
Now, this piece isn’t finished yet, but I thought that this would be a good point to stop and show you all what I’ve been working on. I’ve had a lot of fun with this piece so far, and I’m very excited to see how the end result will turn out when everything is all finished! 🙂
I hope that you guys like how this piece is looking so far, and as always, thanks so much for checking out my work. And remember, if you like what you see, definitely be sure to subscribe to my website, and to follow me on social media where you will be updated on all of my new art projects and finished pieces! Thanks again, and I hope you all have a wonderful day! 😀
Hey guys, so I took a break yesterday from my studies, and have returned today to finish the last portion of learning the anatomy of the human head, which are the lips!
When I first started this course, I honestly thought that I’d breeze right through the lips section, because that is one area that I feel fairly confident in… until I actually got into the depths of the study, that’s when I realized I don’t know squat. lol XD
It turns out that the lips are actually a lot more difficult than I remembered, mostly because I never focused on the various angles, and complex forms that lips can make when making expressions. I will definitely be doing a lot of studies to strengthen this area of my drawings, because the lips can convey so much emotion and expression to a piece, and it’s almost criminal that I never took advantage of the opportunity to make some expressions to my characters.
Now that this portion of my studies has been concluded for now, the next assignment I’m giving myself is a personal one, and not from the course itself. One thing that Aaron Blaise doesn’t cover, is drawing and painting hair. I personally suck when it comes to creating hair, and I really want to get better at drawing it. Since Aaron doesn’t cover it in his course, I’m going to be looking online for a good tutorial, plus, I’ll be assigning myself at least 6 different styles of hair to create at various angles. Once I’ve finished that, the next thing I want to do is to create at least six fully drawn out and painted heads that cover everything that I have learned thus far. Once I’ve finally finished working on the head, I will be continuing on with my course with Aaron on the next section in his anatomy course! :)
I hope that you guys have been enjoying these anatomy studies so far, and thank you kindly for checking out my work! ^^
I’m still working on continuing my anatomy study from my course with Aaron Blaise. The top portion of this image was all done through the course, while the bottom six ear paintings were all done as self assigned homework. I studied the bottom ears from images that I found on Google, and instead of doing them in color, I decided to just focus on a black and white study. The rendering isn’t that fantastic, simply because I’m not that great at shading ears just yet, due to the complex forms. I also didn’t focus a whole lot on rendering, because the main point I wanted to get out was the study of just figuring out how to draw ears.
So yeah, I hope that you guys like how these all turned out, and I look forward to starting the next course study on learning how to draw “Mouths”! 🙂
P.s. the head on the top right isn’t mine. I actually took a screen shot of it during the course to use for the study like Aaron Blaise was doing during the course. I wanted to be sure that I followed along each step of the way! ^^
Today’s lesson was learning how to draw/paint “Noses” by Aaron Blaise. The course was about 30 minutes long, which you can see the progress I did during the course on the top of the image below. After the lesson, I gave myself some homework to continue the study by grabbing references from Google to try and reinforce everything that I had learned. The bottom six images were all made after the course, and took me a couple of hours to complete, probably 3+ hours in length.
I can already see a major improvement in my work, and I’m very excited to continue my studies and hone my skills as an artist.
I hope that you guys like how this course study of noses turned out, and thank you very much for checking out my work!! 🙂
